The mission of The Gillian Reny Stepping Strong Center for Trauma Innovation is to catalyze trauma innovation for injured civilians and military heroes, through multidisciplinary investigative collaborations across the continuum of trauma care, from prevention to treatment and recovery.

The Stepping Strong Innovator Awards program inspires multi-institutional faculty to pursue groundbreaking innovation with a goal of transforming outcomes for civilians and military heroes worldwide.

The Stepping Strong Injury Prevention and Intervention program aims to reduce the number and severity of traumatic injuries resulting from elderly falls, gun violence, distracted driving, and substance use.

The Stepping Strong Plastic Surgery Trauma Fellowship is a unique program designed to train the next generation of medical leaders in advanced and innovative techniques for treating acute and complex injury.

True to the Boston Strong spirit of kindness and collaboration, the members of the Stepping Strong community are inspired to come together to help those with traumatic injuries step strong again.

The Stepping Strong Center is pleased to announce the winner of the 2024 Stepping Strong Breakthrough Award…🥁

Congratulations, Dr. Saef Izzy!

Traumatic spinal cord injury (SCI) is a debilitating condition that significantly impacts individuals and places a heavy burden on healthcare systems. Currently, no effective treatments are available to enhance a patient’s recovery or improve outcomes. When SCI occurs, the body reacts with a complex inflammatory response that can either support healing or cause additional damage. Understanding this response is essential for developing new therapies that promote recovery.

With support from the Stepping Strong Breakthrough Award, Dr. Izzy will study a potential treatment for SCI that nasally administers anti-CD3 monoclonal antibody, which has been shown to trigger an anti-inflammatory immune response that helps reduce neuroinflammation in the central nervous system (CNS). Based on the findings of his study, Dr. Izzy’s research will lay the groundwork for improving treatment for SCI patients in the future.

On #VeteransDay, we remember, honor, and thank America’s veterans and active servicemembers who courageously protect our nation.

Today, the Stepping Strong Center is spotlighting two Army veterans who have received the Stepping Strong-funded Ewing amputation procedure.

Rebecca Mann (center) was injured jumping out of a helicopter. Brandon Korona (right) was injured in an IED explosion. Soon after sustaining their injuries, Rebecca, Brandon, and fellow Ewing amputation patient Tammy Jerome participated in the annual 7-mile Falmouth Road Race, representing team Stepping Strong.

Thank you 🇺🇲
