With the #FourthOfJuly around the corner, it`s important to plan ahead to keep yourself and others safe while celebrating.
Whether you`re driving to a gathering or watching a fireworks display, a few simple precautions can help prevent traumatic injuries and save lives.
In 2022, nearly 500 people died in motor vehicle crashes over July 4th weekend, and 40% involved a drunk driver, according to @nhtsagov. Please plan ahead and #DriveSober.
Fireworks and sparklers are illegal to use, possess, or sell in Massachusetts. To #CelebrateSafely, attend professional shows and avoid at-home use. If you`re in a state where fireworks are legal, know how to prevent burns and other serious injuries.
Scroll through for safety tips, and visit BWHSteppingStrong.org to learn how the Stepping Strong Center works to reduce the burden of trauma through education, training, and community outreach.

In recognition of National Gun Violence Awareness Month, the Stepping Strong Center is highlighting the impactful work of center-affiliated researchers in this important space.
Firearm injuries have devastating effects, but healthcare professionals are uniquely positioned to be part of the solution. With support from a 2021 Stepping Strong Innovator Award, Peter Masiakos, MD, MS, and Cornelia Griggs, MD, are empowering frontline healthcare professionals with the training and tools needed to intervene effectively.
Their work has led to key insights, including a study on how school nurses can help identify at-risk youth, the development of better education for physicians, and data-driven analyses of gun violence patterns across major U.S. cities—all contributing to smarter prevention strategies.

In recognition of National Gun Violence Awareness Month, the Stepping Strong Center is highlighting the impactful work of center-affiliated researchers in this important space.
Though the impacts of gun violence on mental health are well-documented, few resources are available to address disrupted sleep, which can exacerbate long-term mental health effects. Rebecca Robbins, MMSci, PhD, MS, and Chana Sacks, MD, MPH, received a 2022 Stepping Strong Innovator Award for creating a multimedia educational resource, "Sleep Superheroes", to train social workers on the importance of healthy sleep habits for children and families impacted by loss due to gun violence.
